Sinaloa experienced its most violent month in history in June 2025, recording a total of 241 homicides, including 212 murders and 29 bodies found in clandestine graves. The state's governor, Rubén Rocha Moya, acknowledged that efforts to curb crime have not improved. Violence has continued into July, with Sinaloa leading the country in murders, reporting 29 victims in the first four days, largely attributed to ongoing conflicts between the criminal groups Los Chapitos and Los Mayos. On July 4 alone, Sinaloa reported 13 homicides, the highest daily count nationwide, surpassing other states such as Guerrero, Michoacán, and Sonora. Meanwhile, social unrest has emerged with residents of Xaltianguis blocking the Autopista del Sol in both directions to demand medication supplies at health centers, reconstruction of a water treatment plant, market improvements, and road paving. Additional road blockades were reported on the Benito Juárez highway in Navolato as violence and protests persist in the region.
