Adán Augusto López, coordinator of Morena in the Mexican Senate, has been implicated in a controversy involving his former Secretary of Public Security in Tabasco, Hernán Bermúdez Requena, who is currently a fugitive accused of links to organized crime, specifically the criminal group La Barredora. López has denied any prior knowledge or suspicion of Bermúdez Requena's alleged criminal connections and has dismissed calls to resign from his Senate position. Meanwhile, Alejandro Moreno, president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and former governor of Campeche, faces a second request for removal of immunity from prosecution (desafuero) by the Campeche Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. Moreno is accused of embezzling 83 million pesos during his governorship from 2015 to 2019. In response, Moreno has filed a complaint with the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR) against former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and other Morena members, alleging their involvement with organized crime. Moreno has also accused Morena of protecting criminal groups and called for investigations into López, as well as other Morena figures such as Bartlett and López-Gatell, demanding that López step aside while under investigation. The Chamber of Deputies' Instruction Section is scheduled to review Moreno's desafuero request on August 1. Opposition figures, including Ricardo Anaya, have urged thorough investigations into the case involving López and Bermúdez Requena.
