Mexican security forces captured Ángel Javier “N”, known as “El Caiser” or “El Angelito”, in Puebla City on 30 July. The 28-year-old is accused of leading the criminal group “La Barredora” and of involvement in at least ten homicides committed in Tabasco. The arrest was carried out at the intersection of Boulevard Municipio Libre and Avenida Carlos Camacho Espíritu during a joint operation by the Puebla and Tabasco state prosecutors’ offices and Puebla’s Public Security Ministry. After being taken into custody, the suspect was flown from Puebla’s Hermanos Serdán International Airport to Villahermosa, Tabasco, where he will face a judge. Authorities said Ángel Javier “N” was considered a priority target because of the group’s alleged role in drug trafficking, extortion and other violent crimes. His detention brings to 24 the number of people apprehended in Puebla this year for suspected links to La Barredora, which officials describe as operating under the broader umbrella of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
