Hernán Bermúdez Requena, the former Secretary of Public Security of Tabasco during Adán Augusto López's administration, has been the subject of multiple investigations and is currently a fugitive. The Mexican federal government confirmed that Bermúdez fled the country on January 26, 2025, and Interpol has issued a red notice for his international capture. He is accused of leading the criminal group "La Barredora" and faces charges including association with organized crime, extortion, kidnapping, and narcotrafficking. The Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) and the Fiscalía of Tabasco have open investigations against him. Additionally, the Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera (UIF) has frozen Bermúdez's bank accounts, as well as those of his family members, business partners, and related companies, due to alleged money laundering and financial irregularities. Authorities have also suspended businesses linked to his circle. The federal government is collaborating with state authorities to locate him. In related developments, Ulises Pinto, alias "El Mamado" or "El Pinto," a key leader and operator of "La Barredora" and former member of the now-defunct Federal Police, was arrested at Guadalajara International Airport by federal and state authorities. Another high-profile arrest includes Ángel Javier "N," also known as "El Caiser" or "El Angelito," considered a hitman for "La Barredora" and linked to at least 10 homicides; he was detained in Puebla and transferred to Tabasco. Omar García Harfuch, Mexico's Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, confirmed these arrests and the ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, Adán Augusto López, now coordinator of Morena in the Senate and former governor of Tabasco, has denied any prior knowledge or suspicion of Bermúdez's alleged criminal ties and has rejected calls to step down amid the controversy. The PRI party has filed a complaint with the FGR accusing López and other Morena members of connections to organized crime. Furthermore, Víctor Hugo Chávez, a former Secretary of Security of Tabasco and ex-coordinator of the National Guard in Colima, was arrested and is accused of links to both the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and "La Barredora," as well as sexual abuse charges. Investigations reveal that Bermúdez and his family established a network of companies in Tabasco, facilitated by notaries including Adán Augusto López, to support their operations. The Mexican government continues its efforts to dismantle "La Barredora" and prosecute those involved.
