The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) has fallen out of the top 100 universities worldwide in the QS World University Rankings 2026, dropping from 94th place in 2024 to 136th in 2025. This marks the end of a two-year streak within the top 100. The university's score in the 2025 edition was 61.4 out of 100. Despite this decline, UNAM remains among the top five universities in Latin America. Similarly, the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) also exited the top 100, falling to 108th place in the same ranking. The QS World University Rankings assess over 1,500 higher education institutions globally. The drop in ranking has prompted calls for efforts to restore UNAM's academic reputation and position.
