Israel’s military on 3 July published a series of videos that it says document Hamas fighters violently beating, kicking and shooting Gazan civilians at close range. The images, recorded in alleyways across the enclave, depict alleged punishment of residents accused of violating public order imposed by the Islamist movement. Maj.-Gen. Ghassan Alian, the Israeli official overseeing civilian affairs in the Palestinian territories, said the footage shows “savage and blatant abuse” meant to “trample and destroy” Gaza’s population while preserving Hamas’s grip on power. He called the acts tools for sowing fear and suppressing dissent among the strip’s 2.3 million inhabitants. Bloomberg could not independently verify the authenticity or timing of the videos. Hamas has not immediately responded to the Israeli allegations, which add to the mutual accusations of abuses exchanged during the nine-month war that erupted after the group’s 2024 attack on southern Israel.
