Human Rights Watch has accused Israeli forces of committing war crimes by repeatedly shooting Palestinians who gather at distribution points run by the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. In a report released late Friday, the rights group documented at least 859 civilians killed at the sites and cited satellite imagery, medical records and eyewitness testimony indicating victims posed no threat. The UN Human Rights Office puts the death toll higher, at 1,373 since the GHF mechanism began operating on 27 May. The shootings have taken place mainly around Rafah and along the Netzarim Corridor, areas Israel designates as military zones. HRW said the pattern suggested deliberate targeting of civilians and called on Washington and Jerusalem to immediately suspend the GHF programme, lift movement restrictions and allow independent agencies to assume control of aid deliveries. Local health authorities report a widening humanitarian catastrophe. Gaza’s Ministry of Health says hospitals are overwhelmed with gunshot casualties, while the head of Médecins Sans Frontières’ mission warned that the enclave is facing "a famine, not a food shortage." Officials at Al-Shifa Medical Complex described residents "desperately heading to aid centres" because conventional supply chains have collapsed. The criticism intensifies scrutiny of the militarised aid model as international donors, including Spain and France, resort to limited airdrops that relief organisations say cannot meet daily needs. HRW urged the UN Security Council and donor governments to press Israel to end the use of live fire at aid queues and to ensure unhindered humanitarian access in line with international law.
