Israel stepped up air and artillery attacks on the Gaza Strip late 10 August and through 11 August, mounting some of its heaviest bombardments in weeks only hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military would conclude a new phase of the war against Hamas “very soon.” Residents and rescue workers reported sustained strikes on Gaza City’s Al-Zaytoun, Tel al-Hawa and Al-Sabra districts as well as on Deir al-Balah and northern Khan Younis. A residential apartment block in Burj Daloul, Al-Zaytoun, was hit twice, killing at least ten people. Separate blasts killed three civilians south of Al-Zaytoun and another three at an electric-vehicle charging station in Deir al-Balah, while strikes near Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital and other locations left dozens injured. Gaza’s Civil Defense said its teams came under fire despite prior coordination with international agencies, wounding paramedic Diaa Mohammed Suleiman Al-Bayouk and rescuer Nooh Al-Shanghobi as they tried to evacuate casualties. Aid groups warned that repeated strikes close to medical facilities, including the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital area, are further hampering already stretched emergency services. In parallel with the Gaza bombardment, Israeli troops widened arrest raids across the occupied West Bank, storming communities such as Beita, Nablus, Hebron’s Al-Arroub camp, Sa’ir, Arura, Abuween and Shuafat. The army placed parts of the territory on alert, using helicopters and extensive search operations. The latest escalation follows regional reports of Israeli troop build-ups outside Gaza and has prompted renewed international concern that a deeper push into the enclave could worsen the humanitarian situation for its roughly two million residents. Netanyahu has ordered the military to accelerate its plans, saying Gaza must be secured before a new civilian administration can be installed.
