Air-raid sirens rang out across Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other parts of central Israel early on 10 July after the Israel Defense Forces detected a ballistic missile launch from Yemen. The military said its air-defence network intercepted the projectile before it entered Israeli airspace, and no casualties or damage were reported. According to the IDF, the missile was neutralised by the Arrow-3 exo-atmospheric interceptor, the country’s most advanced long-range missile-defence system. The launch was attributed to Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi movement, which has repeatedly targeted Israel and Red Sea shipping since the Gaza war erupted in late 2023. The latest strike came as Israeli decision-makers examine ways to curb Houthi attacks without opening a new front. Officials cited by the newspaper Haaretz this week said the government is exploring diplomatic arrangements with Hamas or Iran—possibly within U.S.-facilitated talks—that would incorporate an explicit or implicit cease-fire from Yemen and potentially conclude the Gaza conflict. The Houthis have fired dozens of missiles and drones toward Israel, most of which have been intercepted or fallen short. While Israel has carried out limited retaliatory strikes, it has so far avoided a broader campaign in Yemen, opting instead to strengthen air defences and pursue diplomatic solutions.
