An Israeli airstrike on Gaza City at dawn on 15 July killed Mohammed Faraj Al-Ghoul, a 67-year-old member of the Palestinian Legislative Council and senior Hamas official, according to medical staff at Al-Shifa Hospital and multiple regional media outlets. The missile struck Al-Ghoul’s family home, the reports said. Al-Ghoul was a prominent legal figure in Gaza. Elected to the legislature in 2006, he chaired its legal committee and previously served as minister for prisoners and later minister of justice in Hamas-led governments. He also founded the Dar al-Haqq and Law Foundation for Human Rights and ran a private law practice. His killing comes amid continued Israeli operations in the enclave. Palestinian health authorities put the Palestinian death toll since October 2023 at more than 58,000, while an AFP tally records 454 Israeli soldiers killed in the same period. On the same morning, the Israeli military said three of its soldiers died when ammunition exploded inside their tank in Jabalia, northern Gaza, highlighting the ongoing intensity of the conflict.
