Israel’s military said it killed Taha Abu Ayadeh, a platoon commander in Hamas’s elite Nukhba force who led the 7 October assault on a gas station near Kibbutz Magen, during an airstrike in the Gaza Strip on 1 July. The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet internal security service said the strike, conducted by the army’s Gaza Division in the Khan Younis area, targeted Abu Ayadeh after intelligence linked him to additional attacks carried out in recent weeks. Abu Ayadeh’s unit was among the fighters who infiltrated southern Israel during the 7 October rampage that touched off the current war in Gaza. The military said his elimination removes a key operational commander from Hamas’s ranks.
