Since March 2, 2025, Gaza has been under a total Israeli blockade, resulting in a severe humanitarian crisis marked by widespread famine and malnutrition, particularly among children. The blockade has severely restricted the entry of food, water, and medical supplies, leading to acute shortages and forcing over 78% of Gaza’s territory under forced displacement orders. Nearly 30,000 Palestinians were displaced in a single day due to these orders, with no safe refuge available. Children like 10-year-old Mohammad Abu Asi and 5-year-old Razan Abu Zaher have been found scavenging for food, with Razan weighing less than 5 kilograms and requiring urgent medical treatment abroad. Families have resorted to consuming contaminated food, such as moldy and worm-infested flour. International organizations including the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), UNICEF, and Amnesty International have condemned the blockade, with Amnesty International accusing Israel of using starvation as a method of warfare and a weapon against civilians, describing it as part of a genocidal campaign. The UN has called for unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza to prevent further starvation and loss of life. Meanwhile, Palestinians attempting to reach humanitarian aid sites have faced lethal force, exacerbating the crisis.
Access to food is a basic human right. Yet people in Gaza are facing injury and even death while trying to obtain food. The window to push back starvation in Gaza is closing fast. Unimpeded humanitarian access must be guaranteed. We need to flood Gaza with aid – quickly https://t.co/Xyc8MB62OB
A family in Gaza shares the bag of flour they received - filled with mold, worms, and weevils. There was no other choice... but to sift it, hoping it might become edible. https://t.co/jq9LCVgj7o
🔴 “UN OCHA (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) notes that since mid-March, when the ceasefire ended, over 50 forced displacement orders have been issued. Together, they now cover about 78 per cent of Gaza. Add the Israeli-militarized zones and that percentage https://t.co/nKUQ0mQASW
