The United Nations human rights office said Friday that at least 1,760 Palestinians have been killed while trying to obtain humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip between 27 May and 13 August. The figure marks a sharp rise from the 1,373 deaths the agency reported at the start of the month, underscoring the mounting human toll as access to food and medical supplies remains heavily restricted. According to the UN, 994 people were shot near distribution points operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, while 766 were killed along aid-convoy routes. The office said most of the fatalities were caused by Israeli military fire and described a recurrent pattern that suggested deliberate targeting of civilians involved in securing relief. Israel’s armed forces said they are examining the allegations. UN-backed experts have warned of looming famine as the 22-month war grinds on and Israeli commanders prepare a new offensive aimed at Hamas strongholds in Gaza City and nearby refugee camps.
