United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need to address the escalating humanitarian crisis. He urged the unconditional release of all hostages and full, safe, and sustained humanitarian access to the region. Guterres highlighted that Israel, as the occupying power, must approve and facilitate aid deliveries to Gaza. Meanwhile, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) have criticized the current Israeli-American aid distribution system in Gaza. They described it as dehumanizing and harmful, with UNRWA reporting that over 400 starving people have died since the system's implementation about a month ago. Both organizations demand the lifting of the Israeli blockade and a return to the UN-coordinated aid distribution mechanism. UNRWA also noted significant challenges in Gaza's healthcare response due to restricted movement and shortages of medical supplies and fuel. The UNRWA spokesperson called the new aid system harsh and unacceptable, insisting it must be discontinued to prevent further suffering.
