The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed infielder CJ Alexander off waivers from the New York Yankees and designated outfielder Steward Berroa for assignment, the club announced late Thursday. The move follows confirmation that starting third baseman Max Muncy will miss roughly six weeks with a knee bone bruise suffered in Wednesday’s game. Manager Dave Roberts said Miguel Rojas would handle third base on Thursday, with Kiké Hernández taking the position Friday, while utilityman Tommy Edman and the newly added Alexander will also begin working at the spot to cover the vacancy. Roberts added that right-hander Emmet Sheehan is an option to start Sunday. The manager reiterated that Mookie Betts will remain at shortstop and Teoscar Hernández in right field despite recent defensive miscues, underscoring the club’s preference to address the infield internally rather than reshuffle its outfield alignment.
