Guy Ritchie has withdrawn as director of Amazon MGM Studios’ “Road House 2,” the sequel to last year’s streaming hit that attracted about 80 million viewers on Prime Video in its first eight weeks. The studio has not disclosed a reason for Ritchie’s exit and is now looking for a replacement while continuing pre-production work. Amazon MGM still aims to begin filming the action thriller this fall, with September the tentative start. Jake Gyllenhaal remains attached to reprise his role as former UFC fighter Dalton from the 2024 reboot, and Will Beall is writing the screenplay. Producers include Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner alongside Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories Productions. The directorial change comes as the studio seeks to build on the commercial momentum of the reboot, one of Prime Video’s most-watched original movies. Casting discussions—including talks with Dave Bautista—are expected to proceed once a new filmmaker is secured.
