20th Century Studios has commissioned a new installment of the “Night at the Museum” franchise, hiring screenwriter Tripper Clancy – whose credits include the “Die Hart” films and “Stuber” – to draft a reimagining of the family comedy series. The project will be produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine through their 21 Laps Entertainment banner, with 21 Laps executive Emily Morris overseeing development for the company. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources say the film will unfold at the museum with an entirely new cast of characters rather than revisiting Ben Stiller’s original protagonist. A director and release timetable have not yet been announced. The reboot revives a property that has generated more than $1.3 billion from three live-action releases in 2006, 2009 and 2014, plus the 2022 animated feature “Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again.” The move follows Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox, now 20th Century Studios, as the studio looks to extend one of its most lucrative family franchises.
