The Madre Fire in California, which began on July 2 in San Luis Obispo County, has expanded to over 70,000 acres (approximately 28,300 hectares) as of July 5, 2025. The wildfire continues to burn southward toward the Kern County line, affecting rural areas and prompting evacuation orders in some residential zones. Containment efforts have reached around 10%, with more than 600 firefighters deployed alongside increased air and ground resources coordinated by CAL FIRE and federal partners. The fire originated and rapidly spread on federal lands. Additionally, another fire in Riverside County, which started on June 29, has affected about 1,000 hectares. The Madre Fire is reported as the largest wildfire in California for the year 2025.
