Salt Lake City firefighters quickly contained a grass fire that flared up near the popular Ensign Peak trail on Wednesday afternoon. The Salt Lake City Fire Department said crews were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. MDT and brought the blaze under control in less than 30 minutes. No homes were threatened, no evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported, though officials asked the public to stay away from the area while mop-up operations continued. The incident comes just under a year after the Sandhurst Fire scorched roughly 200 acres near the same hillside and forced dozens of evacuations. Investigators later traced that 2024 blaze to power-transmission equipment. Fire officials said they would investigate Wednesday’s ignition source once the scene is secured.
