The Chicago Bulls’ Summer League squad defeated the Indiana Pacers on Monday in Las Vegas, riding a 28-point performance from second-year forward Matas Buzelis to cap a highlight-filled 2K NBA Summer League contest. First-round rookie Noa Essengue added 21 points while guard Javon Freeman-Liberty chipped in 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Point guard Yuki Kawamura came off the bench for a 15-point, 10-assist, three-steal double-double that fueled several second-half runs and drew cheers from a sizable Japanese contingent in the crowd. Kawamura, released by Memphis after appearing in 22 games last season, is using the Vegas showcase to audition for a new contract. At 5-foot-8, the B.League MVP of 2023 remains the NBA’s shortest active player but impressed Chicago’s staff with his tempo-setting playmaking and aggressive on-ball defense.
