The Dallas Mavericks are finalizing a deal to bring former Los Angeles Lakers championship coach Frank Vogel onto Jason Kidd’s staff as associate head coach, according to multiple league sources. Vogel reunites with Kidd, who served under him during the Lakers’ 2020 title run, and had already spent last season advising the Mavericks in an informal capacity. Vogel replaces lead assistant Sean Sweeney, who departed for the San Antonio Spurs. His arrival gives Kidd two former NBA head coaches on staff, joining veteran assistant Jay Triano. Despite still having three years remaining on his Phoenix Suns head-coaching contract, Vogel is expected to take a prominent role in Dallas’ game planning and defensive strategy. Separately, Denver is in advanced discussions to hire Mavericks assistant Jared Dudley as the top aide to Nuggets head coach David Adelman, further reshaping Dallas’ bench for the 2025-26 season.
