League sources tell The Athletic that the Rockets and Suns are working on expanding the Kevin Durant trade into a deal that would involve a league-record seven teams. Other teams involved in negotiations at the moment include the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State https://t.co/7ahwO7cPXX
The Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns are in advanced discussions to expand the previously agreed Kevin Durant transaction into what would be the first seven-team trade in NBA history, according to people familiar with the negotiations. The Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves are also involved in the talks, which remain fluid and are not yet considered imminent. Current frameworks would send Durant to Houston, while Phoenix would receive a package highlighted by Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green, the sources said. Atlanta is expected to route center Clint Capela to the Rockets, with additional players and draft rights from earlier draft-night deals filling out the complex exchange. Only five players who appeared in the league last season—Durant, Brooks, Green, Capela and Daeqwon Plowden—are believed to be included at this stage. If completed, the transaction would eclipse last summer’s six-team deal that moved Klay Thompson to Dallas, setting a new benchmark for multiclub trades. Negotiators aim to finalize details ahead of the July 6 window when offseason agreements can be officially registered with the league office.
