The Southeastern Conference admitted an embarrassing mix-up at its football media days in Atlanta after Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was ushered on stage to the strains of Texas A&M’s “Aggie War Hymn” rather than the Longhorns’ own fight song on Tuesday, July 15. Commissioner Greg Sankey opened the following day’s session by acknowledging the error and offering a public apology to Sarkisian and the University of Texas, saying “mistakes happen—no ill intent there.” The musical mishap added fresh spark to the renewed Texas–Texas A&M rivalry. Texas defeated the Aggies 17–7 in College Station last season, their first meeting since 2011, and will host A&M in Austin on Nov. 28 in the programs’ second year as SEC members.
