Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s standing with New Yorkers has deteriorated to its weakest level in two decades, according to a Siena College poll released Tuesday. Only 38% of registered voters view the veteran Democrat favorably while 50% hold an unfavorable opinion, down three points from June and the lowest rating recorded by the survey since it began tracking him in 2005. Schumer’s slide is broad-based. His favorability among fellow Democrats fell to 49% from 55% two months ago, and the poll finds him underwater in New York City for the first time, 39% favorable to 46% unfavorable. Statewide, Democrats in Congress post a net –7% favorability, compared with –24% for Republicans. Governor Kathy Hochul’s job-approval numbers edged higher, yet her prospective 2026 contest has tightened. The survey shows Hochul leading Republican Representative Elise Stefanik 45% to 31%, a 14-point margin that has narrowed from 23 points in June. Hochul held 47% support in the earlier poll, while Stefanik has climbed seven points. Among Jewish voters, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand scores the strongest marks of any state politician tested, with a 54% favorable and 27% unfavorable rating. Schumer trails at 52% favorable and 43% unfavorable in the same subgroup, underscoring the broader erosion in support reflected across the electorate.

This is quite a 7 minutes. About the Senate Minority Leader and his repeated use of fictional constituents. 🤔 https://t.co/MTL1NMKU7f
Absolutely wild For over two decades, Chuck Schumer told how his political career was inspired by a Long Island couple named "Joe and Eileen Bailey." The problem is… they don't even exist. All Schumer does is lie https://t.co/Rllkgz8Taa
