Google used its annual “Made by Google” showcase on Wednesday to fold more generative-AI features into its hardware line-up, led by a new budget earbud, conversational photo-editing tools and fitness-focused smartwatch upgrades. The company introduced the $129 Pixel Buds 2a, its smallest and lightest A-Series earbuds to date. The model adds active noise cancellation, up to 10 hours of listening on a charge (27 hours with the case) and hands-free Gemini support. Pre-orders opened immediately, with deliveries set for 9 October. Google is also pushing a September software “Feature Drop” for the pricier Pixel Buds Pro 2. The update will bring Adaptive Audio that automatically adjusts to ambient sound, Loud Noise Protection, and head-shake or nod gestures for handling calls and texts. A new Moonstone colour option ships on 28 August. In mobile imaging, Google Photos now lets users ask for edits—such as removing background objects or fixing lighting—by voice or text. The capability debuts on the forthcoming Pixel 10 phones in the United States and will roll out to other Android and iOS devices in the weeks ahead. Edited images will carry C2PA content credentials to show when AI was involved. The new Pixel Watch 4 moves to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform, enabling up to 30 hours of battery life, emergency satellite connectivity and dual-frequency GPS. A 15-minute charge delivers as much as 15 hours of use, while on-device sensors can detect a loss of pulse and automatically call emergency services. The watch gains a “Raise to Talk” Gemini assistant and deeper fitness metrics, complementing an AI-powered personal coach that will arrive in October for Fitbit Premium subscribers.
