Tampa Bay Buccaneers left tackle Tristan Wirfs underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee earlier this week and is expected to open the 2025 NFL season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to multiple reports. Placement on the PUP list would sideline the All-Pro for at least the first four games, against Atlanta, Houston, the New York Jets and Philadelphia. Wirfs, 26, aggravated a lingering knee issue during offseason workouts after wearing a brace through much of last year. The two-time first-team All-Pro started 16 games in 2024 and has appeared in 79 straight regular-season contests since Tampa Bay selected him in the first round of the 2020 draft. His absence leaves quarterback Baker Mayfield without his blind-side protector to begin a season in which the Buccaneers are installing a new offensive coordinator. Free-agent signee Charlie Heck is viewed as the top candidate to step in at left tackle, though any replacement is expected to represent a drop-off from one of the league’s highest-graded linemen.
