The Los Angeles Chargers opened training camp by placing five players, including wide receiver Mike Williams and defensive back Elijah Molden, on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, according to the NFL’s July 14 transaction report. Players on the PUP list cannot practice until they pass a physical, but they may be activated at any time during camp. If a player remains on the list when rosters are reduced to 53, league rules require a minimum four-game absence to start the regular season. The other Chargers affected are linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips, wide receiver Jaylen Johnson and offensive tackle Savion Washington. No timeline for activation was disclosed.

Mike Williams can be activated from the PUP list at any time, which means at that point he has passed a physical. If a player remains on the PUP list when rosters are trimmed down to 53 players, he has to miss four games. https://t.co/eVDXYeQcxF
