The Miami Dolphins have reached agreement with the New York Giants to acquire former Pro Bowl tight end Darren Waller, who is ending his year-long retirement, according to multiple reports confirmed by team and league sources. Miami will send a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2026 draft to New York and receive Waller plus a conditional seventh-rounder in 2027. The 32-year-old tight end has signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins valued at up to $5 million, agent Drew Rosenhaus said. Waller retired in June 2024 after one injury-marred season with the Giants but recently told the club he would return only to play in Miami. The 6-foot-6 target amassed 350 receptions, 4,124 yards and 20 touchdowns over eight seasons, highlighted by consecutive 1,100-yard campaigns with the Raiders in 2019-20. He turns 33 in September and reunites with Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith, his position coach in Las Vegas. The move fills a vacancy created when Miami traded Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers a day earlier. With a modest draft outlay and incentive-laden contract, the Dolphins view Waller as a low-risk addition who could give quarterback Tua Tagovailoa another middle-of-the-field threat if he stays healthy.

Darren Waller dominated training camp for the Giants two summers ago. Not sure I've seen an offensive player as dominant in practice on this beat, although Malik Nabers had his moments last year. Then Waller popped up on final injury report before season opener. It was over.
