On the tenth anniversary of the fireworks accident that cost him parts of two fingers, veteran pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul said he is training for an NFL return and would ‘love’ to finish his career where it began, with the New York Giants, in the 2025 season. The 36-year-old free agent has 94.5 career sacks—5.5 shy of the 100-sack milestone—and has been out of football since 2023. Pierre-Paul won Super Bowls with the Giants in 2011 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 and recorded a double-digit sack season as recently as 2018 despite the hand injury. Pierre-Paul’s July 4, 2015 mishap led to the amputation of his right index finger and portions of his thumb, yet he returned that season and played eight more years. He now combines his pursuit of a roster spot with safety advocacy, using his experience to warn others about the dangers of fireworks.
