Senior Awami National Party figure Maulana Khan Zeb was killed along with one other person when unidentified gunmen opened fire near Shindai Mor in Khar Tehsil, Bajaur district, on 10 July, local police said. District Police Officer Waqas Rafiq confirmed that three of Khan Zeb’s companions were wounded and transferred to hospital. An investigation has been opened, but no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Khan Zeb chaired the ANP’s Ulema Council and had run for a National Assembly seat in Pakistan’s 2024 general election. He was campaigning for a peace march scheduled for 13 July, and his killing highlights persistent security risks facing political and rights activists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
