Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defense Minister Yasar Guler will travel to Islamabad on 9 July for a joint visit aimed at deepening diplomatic and security ties with Pakistan, according to Turkish and Pakistani officials. The two ministers are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Army Chief Gen. Asim Munir. Talks will cover regional security, counter-terrorism cooperation and expanded collaboration in the defence industry, building on the countries’ longstanding strategic partnership. Ankara and Islamabad have moved closer in recent years: Turkey openly backed Pakistan during its brief conflict with India in May 2025, and bilateral trade reached about US$1.3 billion last year with an agreed goal of lifting it to US$5 billion. Officials said the visit will review progress since February’s High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting in Islamabad and lay groundwork for the next session, due in Turkey in 2026.
