The British & Irish Lions confirmed that Scotland full-back Blair Kinghorn suffered a sprained knee in Wednesday’s 36–24 win over the ACT Brumbies, but a scan indicated no serious damage. Medical staff hope the 28-year-old can resume training next week, leaving open the possibility that he could feature in the first Test against Australia in Brisbane on 19 July. Ireland’s Jamie Osborne, 23, has been drafted into the touring squad as precautionary cover and will join the side in Brisbane on Saturday. With Kinghorn’s fitness uncertain and Elliot Daly already out of the tour with a fractured forearm, Ireland’s Hugo Keenan is currently favoured to start at full-back in the series opener. Assistant coach Simon Easterby said Kinghorn will be given “every chance” to prove his readiness, while forwards Ollie Chessum and Garry Ringrose sat out Friday’s session in Adelaide as a precaution for minor niggles. The Lions will name their Test squad next Thursday.
