Jared Kaplan, Anthropic's co-founder and Chief Science Officer, stated that it would be odd for Anthropic to sell Claude to OpenAI, a major competitor, if Windsurf becomes part of OpenAI. He emphasized that Anthropic aims to prioritize long-term, sustainable partnerships. Kaplan cited compute constraints as a factor, noting that Anthropic is reserving limited resources for partners expected to remain with the company. Windsurf has had to seek third-party computing providers on short notice, and has warned users of possible short-term disruptions. Anthropic is increasing its focus on agentic coding products, such as Claude Code, and is collaborating with other companies like Cursor, named as a trusted partner. The company is expanding its computing capacity through a new Amazon cluster, with plans to increase model availability in the coming months.
