Russian President Vladimir Putin told senior officials in Moscow that his face-to-face talks with U.S. President Donald Trump at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage were “timely and very useful.” According to Putin, the two leaders spoke for about two and a half hours, covering the full range of U.S.–Russian relations and concentrating on what he described as a “fair basis” for ending the war in Ukraine. Putin said the conversation was “sincere and substantive” and provided an opportunity to set out Russia’s position on the conflict. He added that Moscow respects Washington’s view that hostilities should cease quickly and argued the exchange brings both sides closer to “the necessary decisions,” although neither leader announced concrete agreements at their joint appearance in Alaska. The visit marked Putin’s first trip to the United States since 2015. While he praised the outcome, Ukraine continued to face nightly drone and missile strikes, and European leaders signaled they will maintain pressure on Russia until a durable peace is reached.
