Russia’s Pacific Fleet carried out a live-fire exercise in the Sea of Japan on 30 June, launching a series of anti-ship cruise missiles at practice targets, according to Russian naval statements carried by state media. The missile cruiser Varyag fired a P-1000 Vulkan (3M70) cruise missile, while two missile-boat strike groups launched a total of four P-270 Moskit (3M80) missiles, the fleet command said. The maneuvers formed part of scheduled training for surface combatants operating in the western Pacific.
