President Donald Trump lashed out at U.S. news outlets on Wednesday, accusing them of distorting coverage of his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. In a Truth Social post dated Aug. 13, Trump complained that the “very unfair media” is “constantly quoting fired losers and really dumb people like John Bolton,” after the ex-national security adviser asserted that “Putin has already won” before the summit even begins. Trump wrote that any deal he might strike would be portrayed negatively, declaring that if he “got Moscow and Leningrad free” the press would still call it a bad bargain. He labeled the press “sick and dishonest” and insisted, “We are winning on EVERYTHING.” The Anchorage summit, set for later this week, is expected to explore terms for ending Russia’s war in Ukraine. Bolton, who served in Trump’s first administration until 2019, told CNN the very choice of an American venue represented “a great victory for Putin,” remarks that drew the president’s ire.
