Ukraine’s military said it used long-range drones to hit the Saratov oil refinery early Sunday, igniting multiple fires at the facility about 850 kilometres southeast of Moscow. Social-media footage and NASA’s FIRMS satellite data showed heavy smoke rising from the complex, which has a design processing capacity of roughly 140,000 barrels of crude a day and is operated by Rosneft PJSC. Saratov regional governor Roman Busargin confirmed that an “industrial enterprise” had been struck, reporting one fatality after debris fell near a residential building and saying several apartments were damaged. The incident forced temporary flight restrictions at the local airport as emergency crews worked to contain the blaze. The attack is the latest in Kyiv’s campaign to disrupt Russia’s fuel supply network after earlier strikes this month on refineries in Ryazan and Novokuibyshevsk. Ukraine’s General Staff said the operation aimed to undermine Moscow’s ability to sustain its forces, while Russia’s defence ministry claimed its air-defence units intercepted 121 Ukrainian drones across 15 regions overnight.
