American distance great Katie Ledecky added another chapter to her storied career on Saturday, securing a record-extending seventh world title in the women’s 800-metre freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. The 28-year-old touched in 8 minutes 05.62 seconds, edging Australia’s Lani Pallister by 0.36 and pushing 18-year-old Canadian Summer McIntosh to bronze in 8:07.29. France’s Léon Marchand headlined Sunday’s programme, defending his men’s 400-metre individual medley crown in 4:04.73 for a third straight global gold. Japan’s Tomoyuki Matsushita (4:08.32) and Russia’s Ilia Borodin, racing under a neutral banner (4:09.16), rounded out the podium. Less than 30 minutes after his individual victory, Marchand returned for the men’s 4×100-metre medley relay. Partnering Yohann Ndoye-Brouard, Maxime Grousset and Yann Le Goff, the quartet set a French record of 3:27.96 to claim silver behind the neutral Russian team, lifting France’s meet tally to eight medals.
