Italy took a 1–0 lead over Belgium in their Women’s Euro 2025 Group B opener in Sion after midfielder Arianna Caruso struck shortly before the interval at the Stade de Tourbillon. Caruso, starting in central midfield for Andrea Soncin’s side, collected a loose ball inside the area and beat goalkeeper Nicky Evrard with a right-footed drive in the 44th minute. The goal gives the Azzurre an early advantage in a section that also includes Portugal and Spain. Soncin named veterans Cristiana Girelli and Sofia Cantore in a 3-5-2, while Belgium coach Hege Riise set up her team in a 3-4-2-1 led by captain Tessa Wullaert. The match is the Italians’ first at a European Championship since Belgium eliminated them 1–0 in the 2022 tournament.
