France Football on Thursday released the 30-player shortlists for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, confirming the contenders for the sport’s most prestigious individual honours. The men’s field features Paris Saint-Germain pair Ousmane Dembele and Désiré Doué, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé and Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, among others. Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal, who impressed in both La Liga and the Champions League, also makes the list. On the women’s side, six Barcelona players, including back-to-back winner Aitana Bonmatí and two-time laureate Alexia Putellas, headline the 30 nominees. Arsenal’s Chloe Kelly, Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton and Spain’s Mariona Caldentey are also in contention. The 69th gala will be staged on 22 September at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and will present 13 awards. For the first time, France Football will hand out women’s editions of the Kopa Trophy for best young player, the Yashin Trophy for goalkeeper and the Gerd Müller Trophy for top scorer, alongside the traditional Ballon d’Or honours, coaching prizes and the Sócrates social impact award.
