Manchester United has confirmed that Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha will wear the club’s iconic No. 10 shirt when the 2025-26 season begins. The decision, announced on 8 July, follows the forward’s £62.5 million move from Wolverhampton Wanderers on 1 June after he produced 16 goals and seven assists in 36 appearances last season. The No. 10 jersey had belonged to Marcus Rashford since 2017. Club officials said Rashford was informed of the change before the announcement and has been granted additional time away from pre-season to explore a transfer. United are understood to value the 27-year-old England international at about £40 million after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. Handing the number to Cunha underscores manager Rúben Amorim’s overhaul of a squad that missed out on Champions League qualification and is seeking to cut costs while rebuilding around new signings. The shirt has previously been worn by club greats including Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimović, adding symbolic weight to Cunha’s arrival at Old Trafford.
