Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min said on Saturday he will leave the Premier League club this summer, drawing a close to a 10-year stint that has made him one of Spurs’ most decorated and popular players. The 33-year-old forward, under contract until 2026, confirmed his decision during a news conference in Seoul ahead of a pre-season match against Newcastle United. Son joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for £22 million and has since made 454 appearances and scored 173 goals. He won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2022 and lifted the Europa League trophy in May, ending the club’s 17-year wait for silverware. “I think I have given everything to the team and achieved what I could,” he told reporters, calling the move “the most difficult decision” of his career. While Son did not specify his next club, British and South Korean media report that Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC is leading the race for his signature. Manager Thomas Frank said the club respects the timing of the player’s departure, describing Son as “truly a Spurs legend in every aspect.” Sunday’s friendly at Seoul World Cup Stadium could be Son’s final appearance in a Tottenham shirt. The North London club, preparing for a return to the Champions League next season, is expected to weigh attacking options to fill the gap left by its long-time talisman.
