Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto have jointly launched Shelby, a decentralized, cloud-grade hot storage network designed to support real-time Web3 applications including streaming, artificial intelligence, social platforms, and DePIN. Shelby aims to overcome limitations of traditional Web2 infrastructure by providing a chain-agnostic, incentivized, and monetizable data storage solution that operates at speeds comparable to leading centralized cloud providers such as AWS and Google Cloud. The network features sub-second finality, incentivized reads, and verifiable coordination, all built on the Aptos blockchain, which offers fast block times and high throughput. The developer testnet for Shelby is anticipated to go live in the fourth quarter of 2025. Shelby is positioned as a paradigm shift in blockchain technology by enabling data to be treated as a programmable asset that generates instant on-chain revenue for creators and next-generation applications. The platform is designed to meet the demands of data-rich applications by delivering hot storage optimized for speed and real-time access, moving beyond traditional cold storage solutions. Shelby’s infrastructure includes a dedicated network fiber and is engineered to facilitate trust, scale, and rapid audit and payment processing at protocol speed. The launch was highlighted at the Permissionless conference in Brooklyn, underscoring its role as Web3’s first cloud-grade decentralized data infrastructure.
