Google on 22 August introduced a shortcut that lets Workspace customers open any video stored in Drive directly in Google Vids, the company’s Gemini-powered video-creation and editing application. When a user previews a clip in Drive, a new “Open” button appears in the top-right corner; clicking it launches Vids with the file loaded for trimming, text or music overlays and other basic edits. The shortcut is enabled by default as part of a gradual rollout that may take up to two weeks. The feature is available to paying customers on Workspace business and enterprise tiers, nonprofits, Gemini Education or Education Premium, as well as Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Supported browsers include recent versions of Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge on Windows; file support spans MP4, QuickTime, OGG and WebM, with individual clips capped at 35 minutes or 4 GB. The move deepens Vids’ integration across Google’s productivity suite following earlier additions such as AI-generated video summaries unveiled in May.
