Alphabet Inc.’s Google has begun rolling out its conversational search feature, AI Mode, to 180 countries and territories, widening access well beyond the United States, United Kingdom and India where it debuted. The launch remains English-only for now and notably omits the European Union, where stricter data and artificial-intelligence rules apply. Alongside the expansion, Google introduced the first “agentic” capability within AI Mode: the ability to locate and link users to real-time restaurant reservations across platforms such as OpenTable, Resy and Tock. The function relies on Project Mariner’s live web-browsing tools, the company’s Knowledge Graph and Google Maps data, and is intended to extend later to local service appointments and event tickets. The reservation agent is initially limited to U.S. customers who subscribe to the Google AI Ultra plan—priced at $249.99 a month—and opt in through the Labs testing program. AI Mode is also starting to deliver personalized search responses based on a user’s previous chats, Search history and Maps activity; account settings let users adjust or disable that data sharing. The global push underscores Google’s effort to weave generative AI deeper into its core search business as competition intensifies from standalone chatbots. The company said additional languages and regional launches are planned once testing and regulatory reviews progress.
