Nintendo said on Thursday it will run a second round of its “Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program,” inviting subscribers to sample a still-unannounced online service that was first tested in October 2024. Applications open at 6 p.m. Eastern on July 18 and close at 10:59 a.m. Eastern on July 21. Eligible participants must hold an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, be at least 18 years old, and have a Nintendo Account registered in Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Brazil, or Mexico. Users may apply individually or in groups of up to four, with places awarded on a first-come, first-served basis outside Japan and by lottery within Japan. Nintendo plans to accept as many as 40,000 testers worldwide—quadruple the 10,000 invited last year. Successful applicants will download exclusive software and take part in the closed trial from 9 p.m. Eastern on July 28 until 8:59 p.m. Eastern on August 10. As before, the company is asking participants not to disclose any details, though prior leaks indicated the project may be an MMO-style world-building game.
