General Motors and Hyundai Motor Company have announced a collaboration to co-develop five new vehicles, with plans to launch them in 2028. Of these five vehicles, four will be targeted at markets in Central and South America as part of their strategy to reduce costs and compete more effectively against agile Chinese automotive rivals. This joint development marks the first formal deal between the two automakers under their existing partnership. Separately, General Motors is also renewing efforts to advance its autonomous vehicle technology by seeking to rehire former employees from its defunct Cruise autonomous-vehicle division. The renewed driverless car project will focus on autonomous vehicles intended for personal use rather than robotaxi services, and GM plans to increase hiring to support this initiative.
