MethaneSAT, an $88 million satellite backed by billionaire Jeff Bezos and operated by the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), has been lost in space after losing power. Launched in March 2024 with a planned five-year mission, the satellite was designed to monitor methane emissions from oil and gas industry sites worldwide, providing critical data on this potent greenhouse gas. The satellite, which also received support from Google’s artificial intelligence technology and was launched with involvement from Elon Musk, lost communication on June 20, 2025, and EDF has stated it is likely not recoverable. MethaneSAT was the first satellite developed by an environmental nonprofit organization and played a key role in tracking rogue methane emissions to aid climate change efforts. The spacecraft's failure marks an abrupt end to its mission less than 15 months after deployment.

Darkness At NASA Is Here – But It Won’t Last Forever Keith’s note: Things are starting to look darker at NASA. The Supreme Court just gave the final, ultimate green light to the Administration to gut agencies – NASA – however they wish to do so. Its time to adapt to this new https://t.co/YiGsVyG4LD
