Builder Joseba Antxon Alonso told Spain’s Supreme Court on 7 July that former Socialist Party organisation chief Santos Cerdán never became a shareholder in Servinabar, the Navarra-based construction firm at the centre of the so-called Koldo corruption probe. Alonso said a 2016 private contract that appeared to sell Cerdán 45 % of the company for €6,000 was only a draft that was never notarised and therefore had no legal effect. Alonso acknowledged paying former Transport Ministry adviser Koldo García a monthly salary for nine months to secure introductions to private construction projects, but he denied funneling bribes to win public works or sharing illicit proceeds with Cerdán. He insisted Servinabar did not rig bids and rejected any link between the politician and alleged kickbacks. The businessman, investigated for suspected bribery, organised crime and influence peddling, answered questions solely from his defence. The court is due to hear next from former Acciona executive Fernando Merino as magistrate Leopoldo Puente widens the inquiry into whether other public officials or companies profited from the scheme.
