Syria’s Ministry of Information on 16 June said reports that President Ahmad Al-Shara had opened the country’s airspace to allow the interception of Iranian drones and missiles were “completely baseless,” adding that no directive of that kind had been issued. Twelve days later, the presidential press office dismissed claims that authorities had banned Ashura mourning gatherings in the Damascus suburb of Sayyida Zainab. The office said commemorations would proceed as normal during the first ten days of the Islamic month of Muharram. Separately, the Ministry of Communications and Technology on 28 June denied fresh social-media allegations that government websites had been compromised, stating that material circulating online referred to old data leaks rather than new breaches. In a fourth clarification the same day, Maazen Aloush, relations director for Syria’s land and sea crossings, rejected reports that Turkey had imposed a TRY 36,000 (about US$1,100) penalty on Syrians holding Turkish citizenship who fail to return to Turkey by month-end, saying the supposed fine “does not exist.” Officials urged the public to rely on official statements and avoid unverified online claims.
